Choosing a color is a major part of creating the right bedroom. Misty Yeomans, senior color marketing manager for the Glidden paint brand, says that a kid’s bedroom should reflect their creativity and what inspires them. “Make picking your son or daughter’s new paint color a collaborative process by asking their input. For example, you can ask them which of their favorite characters inspires them the most,” she recommends. Their favorite character can become the inspiration for their new favorite paint color.
Whether you’ve decided to go with a theme or are just looking for some design inspiration, one rule of thumb holds true: Keep your furniture as neutral as possible. In the grand scheme of things, furniture is your big-ticket item. Since it’s an investment, you want to make sure it can be reincorporated if you redo the room as your child ages.
Incorporate elements that show your children their growing family. Photos of the kids together, framed handprints of when they each were newborns encourage them to appreciate their younger or older sibling while adding a warm family atmosphere to their bedroom.
